Maths and Art Week - Ms Lamberty's Patchwork

This week is Maths and Art week! Ms Lamberty brought her beautiful patchwork into school to show the children in Year One.
Ms Lamberty talked about the different shapes that she could use, and how they fit together (tessellate). She also showed the children the special ruler that she used to measure, the set square that she used to get the angles correct. The shapes fit together to create new shapes, such as stars or flowers.
Ms Lamberty uses different fabrics to make her pieces, using colours that complement each other. For one of her patchworks she used her children's baby pyjamas, and she also made an amazing floral bed quilt. Her patchwork pieces are beautiful and very mathematical!
