Drawing with Scissors

Using works by Matisse as inspiration, the children have created some colourful pictures of their own, with a real sense of movement.

The Year One children have been learning all about the human body.

In art, they have been practising drawing the human body in proportion. They practised drawing the human body as circles and ovals joined together.

Next, they practised drawing the human figure in action, looking at the space and shapes around the edge of the body. They found this very tricky!

Using works by Matisse as inspiration, the children have created some colourful pictures of their own, with a real sense of movement.

What did Matisse mean when he said he was "drawing with scissors"?
