Garden Suburb Infant School

Snowy Days

Information about how we manage snowy days at school...

If it snows, we of course aim to keep the school open so long as it is safe to do so.

If we need to close, we will contact parents via Parentmail (text and email). Please assume that we are open unless we contact you. We will aim to do this by 8am.

Please have a back-up plan in place for childcare, in case the school has to close.

We make our decision on school closure based on the safety of our school site and routes to school, and on the number of staff who are able to get to school.

If we are open but it is snowy, the caretakers start work early so they can make the site safe. They cannot clear external routes. I have requested a grit bin from the council for Childs Way. We may ask for help from parent volunteers with putting down grit if/when the bin arrives.

Children must all come prepared for outdoor play and please provide a bag to keep boots in during the day. This avoids them being lost and water and slush pooling on floors.

Most importantly, at school we will ensure the children have some time to enjoy any snow, safely and energetically.

If we need to close early due to the weather deteriorating, please make arrangements for a friend or other family member to be able to collect your child if you are unable to collect. If it is someone who does not normally collect your child then please ensure that you notify the office to inform them who this will be.
